Keto Dieting

What Is Keto Dieting?

Keto Dieting is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that has been shown to help people lose weight. It works by depleting your body’s carbohydrate stores so it turns to fat for energy. This diet is most commonly used to control seizures in people with epilepsy but it’s also been tried as a way to aid weight loss. But a keto diet is not without risk, and it should only be followed under medical supervision and for short periods of time.

Many keto diet recipes call for meat, such as chicken thighs and sausages, but keep in mind that fatty cuts of pork and beef are higher in saturated fat than other lean proteins. Choose grass-fed meats when possible to reduce your risk for heart disease. Avoid processed meats like bacon, sausage and salami, which are high in fat, sodium and preservatives.

Other foods that are considered staples of a keto diet include avocados, nuts and seeds. You should limit how many carbohydrates you eat to stay in a healthy range, though. Avoid packaged cookies and crackers, which are typically high in sugar and carbohydrates. Instead, try homemade baked goods made with nut flours and herbs.

Vegetables that are considered keto include mushrooms, zucchini, green beans and cauliflower. Mushrooms have a negligible amount of carbs and are rich in B and D vitamins, potassium and selenium. Berries are another good choice for a keto diet because they are low in carbs and high in fibre. A cup of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries or blueberries has only 6 – 18 grams of carbs.
