What You Need to Know About Keto Dieting
About Keto Dieting
The Keto diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that helps you lose weight and improve your health. It focuses on eating foods like meat, fish, eggs, cheese and vegetables in addition to healthy fats. The goal is to enter a state of ketosis, where your body burns fat for energy instead of carbohydrates.
You can reach ketosis within days of limiting carbs, but it may take longer for some people. This is because your liver and muscles store glycogen for fuel, so they will use this first before turning to fat. It can also take a few weeks to fully adapt to the new fuel source.
It’s important to stay hydrated while following the keto diet. Having a well-hydrated body will help you feel more alert and energetic. It will also prevent dehydration-related side effects such as the “Keto Flu.”
Try to drink at least half of your bodyweight in ounces each day. This is especially important if you are active or sweating a lot, such as on hot days or after intense workouts.
A good way to maintain hydration is by drinking water, coffee and tea, herbal teas, or lemon juice. Try to avoid sugary drinks, though. Even a small amount of added sugar can cause your blood glucose to spike, which will kick you out of ketosis.
