How to Make the Switch to a Keto Diet a Success

Having the right herbs, vegetables and recipes can help you make the switch to a Keto Diet a success. It’s also important to stock your fridge and pantry with keto-friendly foods before starting. If you go to the grocery store hungry, you’re more likely to fill your cart with bags of Cheetos and Oreos instead of a healthy meal that will help you reach your goals.

Start by buying a few bags of your favorite low carb vegetables and fruits. Nonstarchy veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, green beans and zucchini are low in carbs and calories but are full of nutrients. Also pick up a bag of Keto-friendly lettuce and kale. They are full of fiber and are super low in carbohydrates. If you have any other favorite vegetables or fruits, go ahead and buy them. Just be sure to measure your portions and avoid eating too many calories.

For protein, choose lean meats, eggs and high-fat dairy products. You can also add nuts and seeds like walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts and sunflower seeds. These are rich in healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, as well as protein. Try to eat them with the skin on to get more fiber and vitamin E.

Remember to avoid foods that are high in sugar, even if they are “low-carb.” Stick with the fats you know will work best for you. A good place to start is with olive oil and coconut oil. Both contain healthy, saturated fats and medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) which are known to increase ketone production and support weight loss. You can also eat a few tablespoons of ghee, which is made from butter that has been clarified and separated from the solids, to give you some extra saturated fat.
