Keto herbs, vegetables and recipes
When starting the keto diet it is important to stock your kitchen with foods that will be easy to prepare. This will give you the opportunity to eat at home without having to resist cravings or feel like you are missing out on social activities by eating less than you should. It will also help to keep your hunger and energy levels in check and provide a stable source of fuel for your body. Keep a supply of healthy fats on hand such as grass-fed butter or ghee, olive oil and MCT oils that can be mixed into drinks or used to cook with. These fats will keep you satiated and provide the majority of your calories. If you are struggling to reach your calorie goal try adding more fat to your meals or cutting out carbs.
Keep frozen fruits and berries on hand to add to smoothies, salads or use as flavored ice cubes in drinks. This will reduce your need for processed fruit juices which are high in sugar and low in fiber. Try adding in a handful of low-carb veggies on days you cycle out of ketosis such as a sweet potato and tons of grass-fed butter or some berries to get your fat and carbohydrate intake back up to a normal level.
It is important to note that this type of diet is not for everyone and it can be difficult for those who do not enjoy the process of tracking macros or have a history of eating disorders. A registered dietitian can help those who are not sure whether or not this is the right diet for them.
